Basic Mode: Dumb Phone is designed to help you reduce distracting phone use without accounts, tracking, analytics, or remote data collection.
Overview
Basic Mode works with Apple's built-in Screen Time feature so you can choose apps, app categories, and websites to limit during sessions you start. Your choices stay on your device.
Data We Collect
We do not collect personal data from Basic Mode. The app does not require an account, does not use our backend servers, does not include third-party analytics, and does not sell or share your data.
Screen Time Permission
Basic Mode asks for Apple's Screen Time permission. This is what lets the app limit the apps, categories, and websites you choose during a session, bring them back when the session ends, and give you emergency access if you need it.
When you pick what to limit, that happens through Apple's own picker screen. Basic Mode cannot read your messages, photos, contacts, location, notifications, browsing history, or what you do inside other apps.
On-Device Storage
Basic Mode keeps your settings and session information on your device only. This may include your saved modes, notification preferences, session history, and emergency access status. This information is used only to make the app work for you — it is never sent to us.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Basic Mode may send local reminders about session status, ending soon alerts, restore status, emergency access, and test notifications you request. These notifications are scheduled locally on your device.
Purchases
Subscriptions and purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment card information. Apple may provide us with limited purchase status information needed to unlock paid features.
Your Choices
- You can choose which apps, categories, and websites Basic Mode restricts.
- You can end a Basic Mode session or use Restore App Access to clear restrictions.
- You can revoke Screen Time or notification permissions in iOS Settings.
- You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID subscription settings.
- You can delete Basic Mode to remove its local app data from your device.
Children and Families
Basic Mode is a self-directed digital wellbeing tool. It is not designed to monitor children, report another person's activity, or provide parental surveillance.
Health and Medical Claims
Basic Mode is not a medical device and is not a treatment for ADHD, addiction, anxiety, depression, or any health condition. It is a productivity and digital wellbeing utility.
